From 1954 till today: an Italian tale!
The history of Hotel Ala began in 1954 when Raffaele and Giuseppe Salmaso moved to Venice. A few years later, joined by their wives Tosca and Savina, they transformed the small venue, once a place for "ombre and cicchetti," into Ristorante da Raffaele. Venice thus became their adopted city.
In time, they also ventured into the hospitality business, establishing what is now Hotel Ala - Palazzo Maurogonato, a historic building named after Senator Isaac Maurogonato Pesaro, who resided here from 1839.
Over the years, Raffaele and Giuseppe passed on their passion for hospitality and catering to their children Renato, Giovanna, Stefania and Andrea, who soon embraced the family business with enthusiasm and dedication. To this day, the Salmaso family continues to manage Hotel Ala, Pensione Accademia - Villa Maravege, and Maison Ala on the Grand Canal, involving new generation in a tradition that began over 70 years ago with their grandparents.
